Placing a spacecraft into a particular trajectory. The proper injection often requires manoeuvres after the launch. For example, a space probe to Mars needs a trajectory correction manoeuvre (TCM) about 15 days into the journey. The term is also sometimes used, instead of ‘insertion’, for placing a space vehicle into an orbit.
