Quick Reference

A tool, device, or implement. The parts of a hand instrument may be described as the handle or shaft, which is grasped by the operator's hand; the working end designed for a specific function, such as the reflective surface of a mouth mirror, the point of an explorer, or the cutting surface of a chisel; and the shank, which joins the working end to the shaft. A plastic instrument is used to manipulate any plastic restorative material.
