1 A model used in rational emotive behaviour therapy (REBT) for analysing a client's problems systematically into: A, the activating event; B, the mediating evaluative beliefs; and C, behavioural and emotional consequences. It is sometimes extended to ABCDE, with the addition of: D, disputing; and E, effect of practising rational thinking.

2 Shorthand for the sequence of effects in behaviour therapy: antecedent, behaviour, consequence.
