An indentation in the edge of high ground on a planetary surface; pl.sinus. The name, which means ‘bay’, is not a geological term, but is used in the nomenclature of individual features, for example Sinus Iridum on the Moon. It is also used for a protrusion from a dark area in the naming of Martian albedo features, for example Sinus Meridiani.
