Spuriously anglicized as Eugene and Owen. One of the most common names in early Ireland, borne by dozens of kings, warriors, and saints, of whom the most cited are probably Eógan (1), the son of Niall Noígiallach[of the Nine Hostages], and Eógan Mór of the Eóganacht dynasty in Munster.
