HTML level

Quick Reference

A number which represents a version of the Hypertext Markup Language: for example, HTML 4 designates level 4 of the language. Successive levels build upon previous levels and include further more advanced and sophisticated facilities. For example HTML 4 included a new tag <COLGROUP> which allowed the HTML developer finer control over tables. When a new version of HTML emerges some tags become deprecated tags whose use is frowned on and others become obsolete tags.

Subjects: Computing.
