Quick Reference

The description given to the ultrastructural appearance of myosin molecules attached to an F-actin filament, more easily visualized with the addition of tannic acid to the fixative. Conveniently, the arrowheads indicate the polarity of the filament: the barbed (attachment) end is where G-actin attaches; disassembly occurs at the pointed end.
