Ballet in one act with choreography by Bolm, music (and text) by Prokofiev, and designs by Lucinda Ballard. Premiered 13 Jan. 1940 by Ballet Theatre, in Radio City Center Theater, New York, with Loring, Dollar, V. Essen, K. Conrad, and Stroganova. The ballet follows Prokofiev's story of Peter's adventures in taming the predatory Wolf. Later versions include F. Staff's for Ballet Rambert (1940), G. Blank's (Berlin, 1954), A. Varlamov's for the Bolshoi Ballet (1959), P. Belda's for Ballet of the 20th Century (1966), and Matthew Hart's for the Royal Ballet School (1995), later taken into the Royal Ballet repertoire.
