Accelerating increase in the angular size of a visual image, usually indicating that an object is approaching the face and that a collision is imminent, eliciting reflex avoidance reactions in most animals, including humans even in early infancy, but triggering landing behaviour in flies and other insects. Also called retinal expansion.
