1. A device used to wedge teeth apart. It may be used to gain better access to the interproximal surface of a tooth for diagnostic purposes, to achieve a better interproximal contact area of a restoration, or to aid the finishing of a restoration. Care needs to be taken to avoid soft tissue damage.
2. A device used to separate waste amalgam from waste water using a range of techniques alone or in combination which include sedimentation, centrifugation, ion-exchange, or filtration.
