This article aims to bring elections and electoral behavior back toward the foreground of urban politics in order to provide insights from political behavior, and examines how these insights have been applied to the field of urban politics. It highlights the importance of local elections, and sets out key aspects and questions that form the background to any analysis of urban elections, as well as analyzing urban voters' vote choice and its consequences for accountability, electoral competition, responsiveness, and representation.
