This Introduction starts by discussing how this book came to be, namely from a desire to assemble original contributions reflecting a problem-driven but theoretically informed approach to bridging frontier research in urban economics and urban and regional planning. It then goes on to outline the contents of this book. The hope is that the analysis in this book will convey the breadth of topics and analytical tools that are of mutual interest and usefulness, to both economists and planners. The aim is to contribute to the development of a more intentional shared academic literature and research agenda that will improve the well-being of our communities for present and future generations.
