Individuals in long-term romantic relationships expect their partners to be sexually accessible, to honor the reproductive aspects of the partnership, and to be faithful. When this does not happen, sexual conflict occurs. That conflict can lead to mate expulsion. The present chapter points out how individuals select mates, how sex and sexuality play a role in marital satisfaction, how infidelity affects relationships, and how sexual conflict leads to mate expulsion. New research examining sexual and emotional access is also presented.
