International law has received relatively little attention from scholars of international relations. And, despite the intrinsic relationship between politics and law, scholars of international law have devoted relatively little attention to international politics. A rapprochement is slowly taking place, but is far from complete. This article traces the history of theorizing at the border between international law and international relations in a chronological manner. It concludes by suggesting that one particular area — international lawmaking — offers rich territory for new analysis.
