This article provides a more complete account of the sermon in print by combining the study of sermons with the history of the book. The discussion uses several of Edmund Hickeringill's categories to study the publishing and reception of printed sermons during the late seventeenth century. It looks at some of the most prominent sermon-writers and texts, as well as some of the publishers' commercial concerns and their use by various reader groups. The article also turns to material forms and publishing histories of sermon texts.
