Models of eye movement control based on parallel graded attention contribute theoretical solutions to various problems related to distributed processing, word skipping, and regressions. Here we give an overview of the key concepts of the theoretical framework, its plausibility, and its application and present the assumptions and simulation results for the SWIFT model (Engbert et al., 2005) as an example for a parallel graded attention model of reading.
