This article considers the developments in the aspects of pluralist theory concerning the acknowledgment of the empirical and experiential basis of moral and cultural plurality. It illustrates the longevity of pluralist thought in the field of political theory and the resurrection of earlier pluralist themes in recent theory. It discusses the conflict of pluralist theory with monism and liberalism and traces the history of pluralism in political science.
