This article discusses the old and new political institutions. It begins with a study of the transformation from old institutions to new institutions; it is noted that there are a few ‘new institutions’ that developed in the three waves of democratization. The article also examines the evolution of the theories of institutions. The discussion shows that institutions develop less quickly than theories on institutions. ‘Historical institutions’ even demonstrate that institutional traditions are not easy to change.
