This article studies fiscal competition and provides a brief overview of some of the principal themes that have figured prominently in economic analyses of fiscal competition. It surveys some of the contours of existing research on fiscal competition, provides a working definition of the term ‘fiscal competition’, and identifies significant gaps that need to be studied in the future. The discussion shows how the economic impacts of fiscal policies are dependent on the mobility of the resources to which these policies are applied.
