This chapter analyses the poems Queen Mab (1813) and Laon and Cythna (1817). Queen Mab is an eclectic mix of literary forms and features, a notable instance of the generic hybrid frequent in the poetry of the Romantic period. For decades after Shelley's death it was the most influential of his major poems. In contrast, Laon and Cythna was the least read, and remains so.
