This chapter examines the influence of Holinshed's Chronicles on later writers, first discussing Raphael Holinshed's semi-comic status in certain milieus. It then considers the work of Michael Drayton and his declining reliance on the Chronicles over time, and thereafter turns to John Milton, his intensive study of Holinshed over the years 1639–42, and its diffuse impact on his later poetry.
