This article presents a brief biography of William Shakespeare, who is considered the best-known playwright of his time. William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, the daughter of an affluent landowning farm, and at the age of 18, married Anne Hathaway. They had three children: Susanna, and the twins, Judith and Hamnet. All known records of Shakespeare disappear from 1585 until 1592, when he appears in London as an actor and a collaborator writing Henry VI. Shakespeare's theatre career came to an abrupt halt in 1593. Then, he turned to poetry, and Venus and Adonis established him as an important poet and outsold every other work of his published in his lifetime.
