This article uses a selection of methods to examine the benefits and challenges of using novel approaches in appearance research. It considers the potential expansion of new technologies and web-based research alongside the possibilities offered by alternative methods including arts-based approaches. It suggests that the use of a broader range of methods could be interesting and advantageous for researchers, and would offer alternative means by which people can be engaged with, and participate in, appearance research.
