This article examines why and how the doctrine of original sin come to occupy a place of significance for John Wesley. Wesley saw the doctrine as a biblical one that found authentic and accurate expression through credal forms, Anglican and eventually Methodist. As a biblical doctrine, original sin was an essential part of the foundation of the Christian system, and he defended it through reason and experience.
