Sometimes, psychologists’ conduct may lead to discomfort. Sometimes, expectations about their interventions and professional evaluations might have been inadequate. But things can go wrong, too. Errors are made. Unethical conduct will occur. Psychologists need to face this. Individual psychologists need to be open to look critically into their own behavior and thus to be loyal in having their professional conduct scrutinized. In this chapter, the different modalities of dealing with possible infringements of ethics are described. Coming to a settlement with the complainant as a result of a mediation process might be a preferable option to restore the relationship. However, in criticizing the psychologist's professional conduct in retrospect, the imposition of sanctions by the professional association or a legal disciplinary board may be unavoidable.

Yet, to take corrective actions (e.g., requiring additional training) might be more constructive to improve the ethical quality of future professional conduct.
