This chapter suggests that specific language policy issues that arise in various parts of Western Europe are endless, and thus emphasizes issues that are generally relevant across Western Europe. These are the management of communication in supra-, inter-, or multinational structures, in particular the European Union; the protection and promotion of regional or minority languages; and the linguistic dimensions of immigration and migrant integration. The concluding section proposes an integrative assessment, before venturing suggestions regarding suitable policy responses to meet these challenges.
