This last chapter of the handbook attempts to discuss the potential challenges faced by the field of retirement research. These challenges include: (1) lack of communication among multiple disciplines’ research on retirement, (2) great complexity in conceptualizing retirement and retirement processes, (3) great need to accumulate knowledge of causality, and (4) lack of consideration for the research context. The chapter then offers a five-step systematic research paradigm to overcome these challenges and move the retirement research forward.
