Over the last decade black students' experiences of higher education, and in particular social work education, have been described within a discourse which highlights the negatives. This article questions this wholly negative analysis and rejects simplistic explanations. It invites discussion and invites educators and commentators to address the complexities that arise when black people enter white educational institutions.
