The nuclear transport of proteins is mediated by the complex of importin-a and importing. We isolated two cDNAs encoding importing-rβ from rice. A rice importin-rβ was demonstrated to interact with rice GST-importin-a fusion proteins. The presence of two importin-rβ genes was shown for the first time among a variety of eukaryotes.
