Ibbetson, Julius Caesar (1759–1817), landscape and watercolour painter, was born on 29 December 1759 at Farnley Moor, Leeds, the second child of Richard Ibbetson (d. 1791), a clothier of Yorkshire descent. According to the 'Memoir', Ibbetson's nineteen-year-old mother went into premature labour as a result of a fall on ice and died, with her son being delivered by caesarean section, hence the unusual middle name which he strove to suppress throughout his life.
