Baron, Bernard (1696–1762), engraver, was born in Paris, the son of Laurent Baron, an engraver, and his wife, Françoise Aveline. He studied under his stepfather, Nicolas-Henri Tardieu. Baron was one of a number of French artists who settled in London in the early eighteenth century and who played an enormous role in the development of the British school.
