Parkhurst, John (1511?–1575), bishop of Norwich, was the son of George Parkhurst of Guildford. He attended Magdalen School, Oxford, where he was a pupil of Thomas Robertson. He was elected a bachelor fellow of Merton College on 14 June 1529, and was a full fellow there from 1530 to 1537, serving as first bursar in 1533 and second bursar in 1536. He graduated BA on 24 July 1528 and MA on 17 February 1533, and was created DTh on 30 October 1566. His ordination as acolyte, on 11 March 1536, was followed in 1538 by his ordination as subdeacon on 16 March, deacon on 6 April, and priest on 20 April.
