Bexfield, William Richard (1824–1853), composer, was born at Norwich on 27 April 1824, the third son of Thomas and Anna Bexfield. He entered the cathedral choir at the age of seven, and studied music under the organist, Zachariah Buck, to whom he was articled from 1838. He learned the violin, trumpet, trombone, and drums, but he excelled as an organist when still quite young.
