Drinkwater, John (1882–1937), poet and playwright, was born at Leytonstone, Essex, on 1 June 1882, son of Albert Edwin Drinkwater (1852–1923), schoolmaster and, later, actor, and his wife, Annie Beck, née Brown (d. 1891).
