Foyle, William Alfred Westropp (1885–1963), bookseller, was born on 4 March 1885 in Shoreditch, London, one of the eight children (six sons and two daughters) of William Foyle (1851–1934), a wholesale grocer, and his wife, Deborah Barnett (1851–1894).
