Henson, Herbert Hensley (1863–1947), bishop of Durham, was born in London on 8 November 1863, the son of Thomas Henson (1812–1896), a businessman, and his second wife, Martha Fear (d. 1870). When Henson was two the family moved to Broadstairs.
