Llewellyn, Sir (Samuel Henry) William (1858–1941), painter, was born on 1 December 1858 at Alma Place, Cirencester, the son of Samuel Llewellyn, a moulder, and his wife, Alice Jane Jennings. According to contemporary information, Llewellyn's decision to become an artist caused him to leave home after a bitter quarrel with his parents, without any means of support except his art.
