Turrill, William Bertram (1890–1961), botanist, was born at Woodstock, Oxfordshire, on 14 June 1890, the eldest of the four sons of William Banbury Turrill, provision merchant and later mayor of Woodstock, and his wife, Mary Thirza Homan, who came from a farming family.
