Brudenell, James Thomas, seventh earl of Cardigan (1797–1868), army officer, only surviving son of Robert, sixth earl of Cardigan (d. 1837), and his wife, Penelope Ann Cooke (d. 1826), was born at the Manor House, Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, on 16 October 1797; he had seven sisters.
