Williams, (Thomas) Rhondda (1860–1945), Congregational minister, was born at Cowbridge, Glamorgan, on 19 June 1860, 'one of eighteen children, of whom I never knew more than five' (Williams, 1), the son of Thomas Williams. His mother died when he was fifteen. His father was an itinerant Calvinistic Methodist preacher; while pursuing this part-time occupation he made a living, at different times, as a commercial traveller, a shopkeeper, and a coalminer. ...
