James, Warren (1792–1841), miners' leader, was born near Whitecroft in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, in July 1792, the fourth son, and sixth of nine children, of Warren James (1751–1809), a miner, and his wife, Ann Kear (1755–1836).
