Summary

It has been proposed recently that horizontal P waves can be trapped and resonate laterally in a shallow sedimentary basin. In this work, it is shown both theoretically and numerically that in a sedimentary basin of finite lateral extent trapped horizontal P waves, if they exist, are not a stable way of propagation and therefore cannot resonate.
