This chapter reports on a survey of adult learners participating in formal adult education. The survey collected data from 12,000 adult learners in the 11 European countries/regions involved in the LLL2010 project and Russia. A key finding is that while intrinsic reasons for participation are present in all countries/regions, the extrinsic reasons differ more across countries and tend to be more prevalent in Central and Eastern European countries.
