This chapter studies a widely used term: ‘rights’. It shows that the ‘rights’ of people are frequently cited; their operationalisation, however, is rarely explained. The chapter also explores Martha Nussbaum's capabilities as an adjunct, which helps one think about what needs to be done if rights are to mean something in practice.
