Many of the elderly and dying do not wish to engage with organising their own death. The very success of society in recent years in keeping death at a distance, and of cultural emphasis upon life, means that there is little legitimate place for the discussion of one's own death. The residential care home and the nursing home for the elderly are the two subjects which will require careful attention in the near future for reasons of cost as well as their importance for decisions about death.
