This chapter presents the story of Fatima Ayub. Pioneers always create a space for others to follow and shape other paths. Fatima's mother opened up a path for her in some ways, and she herself has now opened up a path for her own daughters. Most of the people that came here in the early days came to work here and to earn money, and culture was something which people held on to. The government has a lot to answer for when all the legislation presented treats people unfairly, like anti-terrorism legislation. In her personal life, Fatima has been really blessed; she has been married for 16 years and has been negotiating aspects of her work and family life for years. Other girls saw her as a pioneer, and afterwards she was a kind of a marriage counsellor for them.
