This concluding chapter revisits the four themes introduced in the beginning – those of personalising, representing, mediating, and becoming – and assesses what the book as a whole contributes to the project of ‘rethinking the public’. The spatial imaginaries of publicness and public action are, it suggests, being reconfigured. Questions of identity and belonging, difference and diversity, and citizenship and cohesion continue to offer competing images and claims of public legitimacy.
