This chapter tries to suggest some main directions for future research on gender equality in the Scandinavian countries. The complex interplay of heterogeneity and homogeneity that characterises the Scandinavian countries around issues of gender equality is explained. The chapter also discusses the complexity that exists in the relationship between research and policy related to gender equality. It is important that future research seeks to explore welfare responses to all aspects of well being beyond the dimensions of class, financial disadvantage, and work. It may well be that at least some of the dynamics associated with institutional and societal racism in the Scandinavian countries are operative in relation to gender oppression there. The study of gender equality in the Scandinavian countries and beyond will definitely continue to require clever, sensitive, and skilful feminist scholarship such as is exemplified by the present volume.
