This book provides a thorough critique of current measures based on national indicators. It also explains the aims and objectives of what is seen as the ‘social-cohesion’ paradigm, and then presents alternative frameworks for policy development and evaluation. The analysis is organised in four parts: Part One reviews the context and substance of community-cohesion policy and practice, and explores the appropriate theories of evaluation; Part Two assesses the broad methodological problems underlying evaluation strategies; Part Three examines key policy strands; and Part Four ties the arguments together, and assesses a possible future trajectory of policy and evaluation in this area. An overview of the chapters included in the book is given as well.
