This chapter explores the background to partnerships in housing and mental health. It examines themes that emerged from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation-funded workshops on partnership working. It discusses the implications of the lack of direct input from voluntary and community organisations and service users. It suggests that service providers need to use the opportunities available in current plans for mental health services to go beyond professional collaboration and develop partnerships with users of mental health services and voluntary organisations, based on user definitions of need and supporting user-led alternatives.
